My First Post - Introductions

Introductions

So I've started up this blog to promote my Etsy shop, Rose and Songbird. I will mainly be posting about my shop, but also about anything that takes my fancy really. I apologise in advance for bad spelling or grammar as I'm pretty rubbish at English if I'm honest.

I currently work in a part time, retail job but maybe, just maybe one day, I can make my way just making and selling jewellery. I have a great looking, hardworking and long suffering husband and a beautiful, lively, crazy and cuddly 2 and a 1/2 year old boy.

When I Started Making Jewellery

Since a teenager I've been pulling apart my jewellery to customise it to my style, but never thought of making jewellery to sell or to give as gifts. Not until about two years ago.

I suffered from depression as a teenager and even though I used to self harm, I keep this a secret from most of my friends and parents. Self harming is like a habit. A habit that sometimes you can break but always seems to come back. You get out of the habit but give in once, it's hard to stop again. It would go and come back but the 'attacks' seemed to happen further and further apart from each other. Once a had my little boy, it came back again and this time was very difficult to hide and I felt at my lowest every single day. I was diagnosed with post-natal depression and had once a week 'Phone Therapy', (which was very unhelpful) and attended once a week a group called 'Craft Attack'. This was held at a local children's centre and congregated post-natal mums to chat, sit quietly, make crafts, eat lunch and drink coffee, while your little ones were looked after a few rooms away in a creche.
I am, at the best of times, a very shy and unconifident person and find it especially hard to socialise in groups. But I found this group very helpful and the lovely ladies that run it so friendly. I had been there a quite a number of weeks and a lady called Jenny who sat with us and helped us make crafts, told me I had a talent in all things delicate and crafty and suggested to make jewellery.

At first I made simple costume jewellery but have now progressed into wire wrapped crystals. Making and selling is all a learning curve, one I intend to keep practising and improving in.
